I work at the London School of Economics, on projects mainly related to computer security. Current projects include The Identity Project, which aims to look at how UK higher education institutions are currently handling user management; I'm managing the case studies. I also do the system administration for the project team.

I also teach a course on basic computing theory for the Open University - not well paid, sometimes hard to fit in, but fun.

I work from home, and this is good for me as my partner is disabled and has to spend most of the day resting. As complications to her illness, she is extremely sensitive to noise and chemicals, which makes it hard to go out - she has to wear earplugs and ear defenders just to bear to shop - or to have people round - she is particularly affected by common laundry detergents and products such as shampoos.

I listen to lots of music, and am addicted to unsigned music podcasts, particularly to Accident Hash and TPN Rock. I used to play the flute a lot, but haven't really been able to in the last couple of years due to my wife's illness.

My web site is devoted to my other main pasttime, reading. I've been posting reviews on the Internet since 1998, and before this wrote reviews for the Sunday Times and the newsletter of the Oxford University Speculative Fiction Group, of which I was a very active member.
